England produced one of the most emphatic results in their recent history as they demolished Croatia 7-0 in Rijeka, securing their biggest-ever victory in the UEFA Nations League. The result was also Croatia’s heaviest defeat in their history, turning a Group A3 fixture into a landmark night for Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka scored twice each, while Jude Bellingham, Anthony Gordon and substitute Morgan Rogers were also on target. England were already 4-0 ahead at half-time and continued to attack after the interval.

UEFA’s official records confirm the result and show England moving to six points from three matches, while Croatia remained on three. Spain led Group A3 with nine points after beating Czechia 3-1 on the same matchday.
England set the tone almost immediately.
Harry Kane opened the scoring in the eighth minute after being played in by Jude Bellingham. Bellingham then turned scorer in the 21st minute, finishing after Anthony Gordon’s delivery.
Gordon added a third in the 39th minute before Bukayo Saka completed a devastating first half for England with the fourth goal just before the break. UEFA’s match report described England as maintaining their pressure throughout the opening period, with Croatia unable to cope with the visitors’ attacking intensity.
The four-goal advantage was particularly significant because it meant England had four different goalscorers in the first half. According to England Football’s statistical review, the Three Lions had not previously achieved that feat since a match against San Marino in 2013.
England showed no sign of easing off after the restart.
Kane scored his second in the 53rd minute, sliding in to finish a flowing attacking move. Saka then struck again in the 68th minute, driving the ball into the top corner.
Morgan Rogers completed the scoring in the 87th minute after rounding Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livaković. The final whistle confirmed a 7-0 victory and England’s biggest win in the Nations League.
Kane’s two goals took his Nations League tally to four after three matches. UEFA’s scoring statistics also listed him among the leading scorers in the competition.
Bellingham was equally influential despite scoring only once. UEFA’s statistics list him with four assists in the competition, while his involvement in England’s attacking moves was central to the victory.
The combination of Kane’s finishing, Bellingham’s creativity and Saka’s direct attacking threat gave Croatia few opportunities to recover once England established their early lead.
The scoreline was not merely Croatia’s worst result against England. It was the heaviest defeat in the history of the Croatian national team.
England Football noted that Croatia’s previous joint-heaviest home defeat was the 4-1 loss to England in 2008. The 7-0 result therefore established a new unwanted record for Croatia.
For England, meanwhile, the margin equalled their biggest victory since another 7-0 result against North Macedonia in June 2023 and became their largest-ever win in the UEFA Nations League.
What the result means for Group A3
The victory significantly improves England’s position in a competitive group.
After three matches, the standings are:
| Position | Team | Points | Goal difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Spain | 9 | +6 |
| 2 | England | 6 | +8 |
| 3 | Croatia | 3 | -9 |
| 4 | Czechia | 0 | -5 |
England therefore remain three points behind Spain, but their superior goal difference gives them a substantial advantage over Croatia and Czechia.
The next Group A3 fixture for England is against Czechia, while Croatia face Spain. UEFA’s published schedule lists both matches for the following matchday.
The victory also extended England’s winning streak away from home to nine matches.
England Football says that this equals the national team’s longest-ever away winning run, matching the sequence achieved between December 1965 and October 1967.
That statistic gives the 7-0 result added significance. It was not simply an isolated high-scoring performance: it continued an exceptional run of results on the road.
From our perspective, the most impressive aspect of England’s performance was not simply the seven goals but the way the goals were distributed across the match.
England were already four goals ahead before half-time, yet they continued to create and convert chances after the break. Kane and Saka both scored twice, Bellingham contributed a goal and assists, while Gordon and Rogers also got on the scoresheet.
The result also demonstrates the value of England’s attacking depth. Croatia were unable to contain England’s movement and quality, and once the visitors established a commanding advantage, the game became increasingly one-sided.
At the same time, one 7-0 victory should not be treated as proof that England have solved every challenge. Spain remain top of the group and had already beaten England 3-2 in the opening matchday. England’s next fixtures will provide a better test of whether this extraordinary night represents a sustained level of performance.
