The decisive moment came from the Leeds substitutes. Harry Wilson and Okafor brought fresh energy to the home side, with the Swiss forward finding the net shortly after entering the pitch.

Noah Okafor makes the difference with an instant impact

Leeds had threatened throughout the second half, but Tottenham’s defence appeared capable of holding out until the closing stages.

That changed in the 77th minute when Farke introduced Harry Wilson and Noah Okafor, replacing Ao Tanaka and Lukas Nmecha respectively.

The substitutions immediately transformed the attacking threat. In the 79th minute, Dominic Calvert-Lewin controlled a ball inside the penalty area and helped bring Wilson into the move. Wilson then supplied Okafor, who showed composure before firing into the corner of the net.

It was an outstanding contribution from the Swiss international, who scored with his third touch of the match. His goal came just 97 seconds after entering the game.

The celebrations at Elland Road reflected the importance of the moment. Leeds had finally found the breakthrough after a sustained period of second-half pressure.

Leeds dominate after the interval

The first half had been relatively balanced, with both teams struggling to create clear opportunities.

Leeds started positively and attempted to put Tottenham under pressure from the opening minutes. Ao Tanaka and Ethan Ampadu both tried their luck from distance, while goalkeeper James Trafford was called into action to deal with efforts from Omar Marmoush and Mohammed Kudus.

There was also a potential handball incident involving Tottenham midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Leeds appealed for a penalty, but referee John Brooks and VAR did not award one.

Tottenham had opportunities of their own, particularly through Kudus, but neither side managed to score before half-time.

The second period was a different story.

Farke’s team increased their intensity and began creating more dangerous situations around the Tottenham penalty area. Dominic Calvert-Lewin came particularly close, seeing a header blocked on the goal line before Nico Elvedi failed to convert the rebound.

Calvert-Lewin also created another promising opportunity for Tanaka, whose effort went over the crossbar.

Sean Longstaff subsequently forced an excellent save from Tottenham goalkeeper Antonín Kinský with a powerful attempt.

The pressure eventually produced the winning goal, and Leeds had the better of the second half.

Tottenham struggle to respond

Tottenham arrived at Elland Road looking to continue a run of three consecutive Premier League victories. However, Roberto De Zerbi’s side struggled to reproduce the attacking quality that had characterised their recent performances.

Although Spurs enjoyed periods of possession, they found it difficult to turn that advantage into meaningful opportunities.

Their attacking players were unable to consistently trouble James Trafford, and Leeds defended with determination when Tottenham attempted to find an equaliser.

The visitors did have one significant opportunity in stoppage time. Jan Paul van Hecke directed a header towards goal from a free-kick, but Trafford produced an excellent save to preserve the clean sheet.

That intervention ensured Leeds collected all three points.

What the result means for the Premier League table

The victory represented more than just three points for Leeds. It also changed the immediate positions of both clubs in the standings.

According to the matchday standings reported after the game, Leeds moved into eighth place with 14 points, while Tottenham dropped to tenth with 12 points.

For Leeds, the result provides a welcome boost after a difficult spell without a league victory. It also gives Farke’s players a positive result to take into the international break.

Tottenham, meanwhile, must respond to a disappointing performance that ended their three-match winning sequence.

Our analysis: Farke’s substitutions proved decisive

Leeds deserved their victory, particularly because of the improvement they showed after half-time.

The home side demonstrated greater urgency, created more dangerous opportunities and put Tottenham under sustained pressure. Their ability to maintain that intensity was crucial.

Farke also deserves credit for his substitutions. Introducing Wilson and Okafor gave Leeds additional attacking quality at exactly the right moment. The combination between the two substitutes produced the goal that decided the contest.

From Tottenham’s perspective, the defeat raises questions about their ability to maintain consistency. Possession alone was not enough to threaten Leeds, and their limited attacking influence after the break ultimately proved costly.

Our assessment is that this was an important statement from Leeds. It demonstrated that Farke’s team can respond to a difficult run through organisation, intensity and effective tactical decisions.

For Okafor, it was also a reminder of how influential a substitute can be. His brief appearance changed the outcome of an important Premier League fixture.
